New Progress in 5G Deployment By Indian And Philippine Operators
Aug 17, 2023
Indian telecommunications operator Bharti Airtel recently launched the country's first 5G fixed wireless access FWA service, Airtel Xstream AirFiber, in the Delhi and Mumbai regions. Xstream AirFiber is a plug and play device with built-in Wi Fi that can connect up to 64 terminals simultaneously. It supports large indoor coverage with a maximum bandwidth of 100Mbps and is initially priced at approximately 799 rupees (equivalent to RMB 70).
Shahwat Sharma, Consumer Business Director of Bharti Airtel, stated that India's home broadband business is growing rapidly, but in a country as large as India, there are still many practical challenges to achieving universal fiber broadband coverage. Although fiber to home still provides the best experience for home broadband, AirFiber services can meet the needs of more users without fiber deployment conditions. After Delhi and Mumbai, they will soon launch this service for all of India.
Currently, all Xstream AirFiber terminals are produced locally in India under the name "Made in India".
In another news, Philippine telecommunications operator Globe recently teamed up with HP company HPE Huihe Technology to launch the country's first 5G SA private network service. This business is based on the 5G core network device of HPE's Athonet, providing enterprise users with choices beyond Wi Fi and public mobile phone networks, supporting better connectivity and facilitating users to improve work efficiency and connection quality.
