Development Direction Of High Density Optical Fiber Connector
Dec 29, 2022
COBO Alliance held a webinar at 8:00 this morning (Beijing time), inviting two experts in optical fiber connectors to talk about the development of optical fiber connectors for high-density and COBO requirements.
The first expert is Yip from Optec in Shenzhen, who talks about optical backplane optical fiber shuffle technology. He believes that shuffle is the best interconnection scheme for hundreds of optical fiber connectors in the CPO system. This factory ordered and tested connection system saves space and cost.
Teruhiko Omori, the second person from the Optical Devices Department of Fujikura Company, told about the high-density miniaturized connector of 51.2Tbps CPO system. One of his solutions is MDC MMC connector jointly developed with US Conec and other companies, and the other is optical fiber connector with 80 micron cladding. The switch switching capacity ranges from 640G to 51.2T, the SerDes speed ranges from 10G to 112G, and the switch port density is getting higher and higher. In order to accommodate enough ports in the 1RU size panel, new connectors are necessary. The new MMC16 supports more than 1RU 4000 connections, and the MMC24 supports more than 6000 connections. MMC is a mini multi connector, fully compatible with MPO.
If you want to further improve the port density, Fujikura also proposed a connector for 80 μ m cladding optical fiber, which uses the same mt plug core as 125 μ m, with 250 μ m spacing, and is particularly suitable for matching with the silicon optical system
